Title: Head, Investments at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance
Contract: 5‑year fixed‑term contract
Location: Geneva or Washington, DC

Reports To: Chief Investment Officer (CIO)

About the Role This role is central to shaping Gavi’s investment strategy by delivering high‑quality macroeconomic analysis and identifying strategic and tactical investment opportunities. The Head of Investments works closely with the CIO to promote strong market intelligence and thought leadership, cultivates relationships with investment managers, industry peers, and service providers, leads research initiatives, and advances the team’s risk‑management framework.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement investment strategy, deliver macroeconomic analysis, and identify both strategic and tactical investment opportunities.
Provide financial markets guidance and foster collaboration across internal teams (Finance, Governance, Internal Audit, Ethics, Risk & Compliance, and Resource Mobilisation).
Conduct due diligence on investment managers, recommend hiring/firing decisions, coordinate risk assessments and audit documentation.
Lead discussions with internal risk teams to ensure consistent understanding and evaluation of portfolio and operational risks.
Identify key market themes, integrate them into Investment Committee and Board communications, and strengthen strategic alignment.
Assess and recommend software and data tools, ensure adherence to investment policies and advise on portfolio changes.
Synthesize internal forecasts, market assumptions, and risk appetite to drive scenario planning and annual asset‑allocation studies.
Experience and Skills
10–15 years of relevant experience at a non‑profit, corporate or government pension plan, endowment, foundation, sovereign wealth fund or investment advisory consultancy.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or international relations (preferred); Master’s degree or MBA highly desirable.
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) required; Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) or other professional certification desirable.
Excellent communication: ability to convey complex concepts, create clear data visualisations and presentations.
Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Bloomberg, and portfolio‑management principles.
Ability to exercise discretion, navigate sensitive information, and maintain compliance with institutional policies.
Willingness to travel up to 20%.
Fluency in English; proficiency in French is an asset.
