Chief Architect
for design and maintenance of the Decennial IT "System of Systems" architecture, ensuring interoperability, security, and scalability across multiple platforms. This position drives the Census Bureau's modernization strategy through cloud-design, automation, and performance optimization.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Develop and maintain the enterprise-level SoS architecture.
Define architecture standards focused on performance, resilience, and security.
Lead cloud strategy implementation using secure, cloud‑best practices.
Guide the technical direction of large‑scale systems supporting the 2030 Census.
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure seamless interoperability of systems.
Oversee architectural documentation, configuration management, and system version control.
Conduct architecture reviews and provide recommendations for optimization and modernization.
Partner with cybersecurity leads to integrate security architecture principles into all designs.
Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field; Master's or relevant certification (TOGAF, AWS/Azure)
Experience:
Minimum 12 years in systems or enterprise architecture, including 5 years leading large federal IT programs
Expertise in multi‑cloud, DevSecOps, and TOGAF‑aligned frameworks
Position Pay Range $150,000–$220,000 USD
