Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.

3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.

5 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.

1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.

Experience in Sensor Fusion, Signal Processing, Inertial Measurement Units, Low Power Computing.

Experience developing accessible technologies.

Knowledge of location and activity recognition technologies, especially on mobile devices (iOS or Android).

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast‑paced business grow and evolve. The smartphone, location, and analytics teams are tasked with enabling more accurate, reliable, timely, and power‑efficient location experiences across Android and Pixel devices. You’ll use Google’s extensive development tools to build and extend the end‑user experience of using Location on Android, from external user interfaces to ML‑algorithm development on server and client, to improvements in internal custom tooling and visualization.

The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $166,000–$244,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.

Responsibilities

Develop new algorithms and update existing software, with good integration testing, documentation in alignment with organizational goals, enabling new and more reliable end‑user location experiences.

Maintain and improve Android and Google Play Services Location core OS software, various client‑side apps, and server‑side tools and systems to measure, analyze, visualize, and automate root‑cause analysis of issues and potential improvements for end‑user location experience.

Improve software systems in alignment with evolving best practices across the Android Location and adjacent organizations.

Integrate rapidly evolving LLM/AI systems into relevant systems, from ML algorithm improvements to optimizing development velocity across a broad organization.
