There is currently one (1) vacancy in the Maintenance and Operations Department (8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year). The hours of this position are 6:30am - 3:00 pm with a 30 min lunch.

Basic Function Under the direction of the Administrative Director II, Maintenance and Operations or designee, plan, organize and direct the activities, personnel and operations of an assigned division of the Maintenance and Operations Department; receive, review and assign work orders and material requisitions; plan, organize and supervise the maintenance of school buildings and facilities; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

Minimum Qualifications Any combination equivalent to: Associate degree or two years of college level coursework with major coursework in the field of business or public administration or closely related to the scope of responsibilities and four years recent increasingly responsible journey-level experience in a related building trade, preferably in a public agency, including at least two years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Licenses And Other Requirements Valid California driver's license.

The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying. An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list. Examinations and interviews held to create the eligible list will be conducted virtually, using different online/internet platforms that require video recording or conferencing capabilities, as well as access to a computer with an internet connection and basic Microsoft Office Suite Software.

The virtual written exam is tentatively scheduled for the week of December 1st. The virtual Qualifications Appraisal Interview is tentatively scheduled for the week of December 8th. Representative Duties

Plan, organize and direct the activities, personnel and operations of an assigned division of the Maintenance and Operations Department; inspect work in progress to assure proper standards and guidelines are followed; assure a safe environment for students and staff.

Receive, review and assign work orders and material requisitions; approve or deny work orders and requisitions; estimate labor and materials costs; evaluate new materials and supplies.

Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions.

Train staff in work and safety procedures and the operation and use of equipment and supplies; implement procedures and standards.

Evaluates and reviews work for acceptability and conformance with department standards, including program and project priorities.

Makes inspections of ongoing and completed assignments to ensure the quality of work, operating procedures, methods and practices, safety and other established standards and requirements are satisfactorily met and maintained.

Review construction design plans for sustainability and feasibility; coordinate projects and schedules with feedback from staff.

Meet with outside contractors and vendors to obtain bids for various projects District-wide; review blueprints and create scope of work for maintenance projects; develop specifications.

Assist in the coordination and inspection of the work of outside contactors involved in repairs and construction.

Assist with the development and updates to the District’s long-term maintenance plans.

Provide technical expertise, information and assistance to the District and other departments regarding assigned functions; participate in the formulation and development of special projects, policies, procedures and programs as requested.

Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records and files related to assigned activities and personnel; prepare and supervise the preparation of reports, drawings, estimates, designs, specifications and engineering data related to construction.

Communicate with administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information; serve as liaison between the District and contractors, architects and engineering firms contracted by the District.

Assist in the development, coordination and preparation of the annual preliminary budget for assigned Maintenance and Operations division; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.

Drive a vehicle to various District sites to inspect work in progress, confer with administrators and to evaluate complex work orders.

Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer; operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment, as necessary.

Respond to, evaluate and assign emergency service requests to staff.

Attend and conduct a variety of meetings as assigned; develop and conduct in-service training programs.

Exercise leadership to maintain the efficiency and continuity of the maintenance function in the absence of the incumbent’s immediate supervisor.
