The position is located in North Kansas City within the Atlas Tube division.
Job Summary As an Electrical/Controls Engineer at Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in delivering engineering solutions and optimizing plant performance.
Your work will directly impact equipment reliability, plant safety, and operational efficiency by supporting the Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations teams.
Responsibilities
Identify needs for new equipment or modifications to existing plant systems to improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Troubleshoot electrical and controls-related downtime events and drive quick resolution to resume plant operations.
Design and implement electrical and control solutions for plant safety and improvement projects.
Maintain accurate technical documentation for all plant equipment, including schematics, drawings, and bills of materials.
Research and evaluate new technologies for potential integration into plant operations.
Partner with the Maintenance Manager to develop and implement electrical preventative maintenance (PM) schedules.
Track reliability metrics and perform root cause analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
Provide reports and corrective action plans to management for recurring or critical maintenance issues.
Assist in training and skill development for maintenance team members.
Support contractor selection and oversight for assigned engineering projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field in electronics technologies.
3+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting within maintenance or engineering.
Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical prints and ladder logic.
Experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting—specifically Allen Bradley (ControlLogix, PLC-5, SLC-500, MicroLogix, PanelView), Siemens Simatic S7, and Wonderware systems.
Skilled in drive setup, programming, and troubleshooting, including Allen Bradley PowerFlex AC drives and Unico Cutoff Servo Drives.
Knowledgeable in AC and DC motor control systems.
Proficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communicator with proven leadership, organization, and problem‑solving abilities.
