QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR (STRUCTURAL)
Our company is looking for a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform quality control at our Structural Steel division.
Duties of the Quality Control Inspector
Inspectors must be familiar with Project Specifications and approved shop drawings.
Inspect structural steel fabricated by this plant for conformance with Project Specifications and approved shop drawings. Inspections include in-process inspections (layout, hardware, dimensional), and final inspections (welding, bolting, coatings).
Work with Shop Supervisors to assure that all fabrications are built correctly, prior to shipment.
Alert Shop Supervisors of errors that affect deliveries as soon as they become apparent.
Maintain the Shop Inspection Error Log with sign-off on individual pieces and assemblies, and documentation of shop errors with required repair times.
Maintain open line of communication with the Shop Supervisors, Project Managers, and other employees of Shepard Steel.
Must be able to discuss any repeating production non-conformances and offer constructive feedback when appropriate.
Must be knowledgeable of Shepard Steels accepted inspection practices as detailed in the Operations Manual.
Must be familiar with AISC fabrication practices and allowable tolerances.
Must be knowledgeable with AWS D1.1 and D1.5, including weld inspection criteria.
Must have ability to write Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) per AWS.
Must have ability to administer welder Performance Qualification testing and ability to write Welding Performance Qualification Records (WPQR) per AWS.
Must be proficient with basic computer skills (i.e., email correspondence, use Microsoft Excel).
Job Requirements
Must have experience in the Structural Steel Fabrication business.
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required.
Familiarity with the AISC shop certification program is a plus.
Other formal inspection training and/or certifications are a plus.
Requisite work experience in the industry is 5 years for this position.
Position requires a detail-oriented individual with the ability to think on their feet with limited supervision.
