Senior Survey Crew Chief The primary role of this position is to complete all assigned survey projects in a timely and professional manner. The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for all daily activities at the job site that ensure personnel safety and data collection accuracy. This position requires good math skills related to surveying and good verbal and written communication skills. Various responsibilities of this position include:
Operate and maintain all surveying equipment and complete calibration checks
Follow required safety standards and guidelines
Maintain written field notes and daily records
Read, interpret, and research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys
Perform survey calculations utilizing a calculator or supplied data collectors
Record the results of surveying and verify the accuracy of data with proper field checks recorded
Transmit survey data results, which include sending data to the home office from remote field locations
Lead survey crew by providing direction and leadership by demonstrating an attitude toward safety, cost control, efficiency, and professionalism
Direct survey crew members to complete field survey tasks as required
Assist and mentor in training staff on field methods and instrument use and care
Qualifications and Skills
Must be familiar with the basic types of land surveying and terminology and be knowledgeable about the field duties of a Survey Crew Chief.
5+ years’ experience as a Crew Chief
5+ years of surveying experience using Total Stations, Robotic Total Stations, GPS, Automatic Level, and Digital Level, or related surveying equipment
Prior experience with FDOT Survey Procedures is but not required
Experience using Leica and Topcon Survey Equipment
Experience in construction, sectionalized land, boundary, topographic, and residential surveys.
Required to have satisfactory results on a Motor Vehicle Record check and maintain a valid driver’s license
Must be able to travel to remote field locations, including some overnight stays, as needed
Perform tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence
Ability to work extended hours, including some weekends, when necessary.
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and terrain conditions
Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and do repetitive work such as lifting, bending, and standing
Proven experience providing excellent customer service
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a dynamic environment
Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail and analytical skills
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; offer constructive feedback and direction to support goals
Ability to read and understand Deeds and Legal Descriptions.
Ability to read Construction Plans including, but not limited to, Foundation Plans, Grading Plans, Architectural Plans, and Right-of-Way Maps.
Experience with Topcon Magnet Field a plus.
FAA Part 107, Drone Pilots License a plus.
Laser Scanner experience a plus
Survey Instrument Person The primary role of this position is to assist the Survey Crew Chief in completing their assigned survey projects. The position requires good basic math skills related to surveying, good verbal and written communication skills, and the motivation to follow instructions completely and accurately while working in various terrain and conditions. Some functions and responsibilities of the position include:
Load/unload equipment for transportation, cleaning, storage, and charging of surveying equipment.
Keep the crew's assigned vehicle clean, properly maintained, and stocked with the necessary equipment and supplies as instructed by the Crew Chief. Report any mechanical or safety-related problems to the Crew Chief
Communicate and coordinate effectively with other crew members to facilitate the timely and accurate completion of assigned projects
Observe all safety guidelines and procedures, mainly when working around traffic or on active construction sites
Accurately and efficiently set up equipment and operate survey instruments, including Total Stations, Robotic Total Stations, GPS, Automatic Level, and Digital Level, Data Collectors, and related surveying equipment and software.
Ability to clear cut lines, and establish control points boundary points for field survey projects as assigned by Crew Chief
Import and Export survey data, to and from data collector for use in the field and office.
Stand, walk, use hands, tools, and controls; reach with arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and move up to 50-75 pounds.
Qualifications and Skills
Must be familiar with the basic types of land surveying and terminology and be knowledgeable about the field duties of an Instrument Operator and Rodman.
High school diploma or GED diploma
Required 2-4 years of experience as a Survey Instrument Operator and Rodman
Current valid Driver's License.
Reliable transportation.
Familiarity with Leica, Sokkia, and Topcon GPS, Robotic, Total Stations, Data Collectors, and Levels.
Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and travel out of town periodically when necessary.
Experience with Topcon Magnet Field a plus.
FAA Part 107, Drone Pilots License a plus.
Laser Scanner experience a plus.
