For this role specifically, we are seeking an individual to help support high‑impact, civic tech within the federal government. We’re looking for a Data Engineer who loves building scalable, high‑impact data systems that power analytics, AI, and business decisions. You’ll design and maintain robust pipelines on Databricks, orchestrate transformations using dbt, and help shape a modern data lakehouse architecture that’s clean, reliable, and fast. and be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines on Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, SQL Warehouse)
Develop and manage dbt models for data transformation, testing, and documentation
Collaborate with data analysts, scientists, and business partners to translate raw data into actionable insights
Optimize data workflows for performance, cost, and scalability
Implement data quality, lineage, and CI/CD best practices using Git and modern orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster, Prefect)
Help evolve our lakehouse and semantic modeling layer to support analytics and AI use cases
Mentor junior engineers and conduct code reviews
Clearly communicate technical topics to both technical and non‑technical audiences
Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to define data requirements and deliver solutions in agile environments
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
3+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering
Strong SQL and Python skills
Hands‑on experience with Databricks (PySpark, Delta Lake, or Databricks SQL)
Proficiency in dbt (core or Cloud), including model development, tests, and deployment
Familiarity with data warehouse or lakehouse architectures (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar)
Comfort working in version‑controlled, collaborative environments (Git/GitHub)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex topics to diverse audiences
Applicant must be a US citizen and obtain Public Trust clearance
Nice to Have Skills
Exposure to CI/CD, Terraform, Airflow, or data observability tools
Salary Range We are committed to offering a competitive salary for this position, with an estimated range of $110k to $165k annually. Please note that this range is intended to provide a general idea of what to expect; however, the final offer may vary based on experience, skills, and other factors. The stated range is not a guarantee and is subject to change.
