Base pay range
$220,000.00/yr - $285,000.00/yr We’re building the next generation of spatial computing to fundamentally change how people connect, work, and play. As a Product Design Engineer, you will be one of the core contributors to our mission, taking end-to-end ownership of complex hardware systems for our VR/AR products. This role requires a blend of technical depth and scrappy ingenuity, moving concepts rapidly from prototyping to our first mass-production consumer devices. You will thrive as a generalist, working across disciplines to solve problems and directly influence the final product architecture. System Ownership: Design, analyze, and build complex mechanical systems for our VR/AR hardware (e.g., optical modules, thermal solutions, and input devices). Rapid Prototyping: Quickly create functional prototypes using various fabrication techniques (3D printing, CNC, soft tooling) to test and iterate on design concepts with a fast turnaround. DFM/DFA: Drive the design for manufacturing and assembly process, partnering with external vendors and domestic and international partners to successfully transition designs from prototype to high-volume manufacturing. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the mechanical engineering subject matter expert, integrating seamlessly with Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Operations teams to define system architecture, manage trade-offs, and hit aggressive product goals. Testing and Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans (DV/PV) to validate design performance, reliability, and manufacturability under demanding usage conditions. Minimum Qualifications: BS in Mechanical Engineering from a top school. 8+ years of experience in product design and development, with a significant focus on handheld, wearable, or other compact consumer electronics. Proven ability to take a product from initial concept through to successful mass production. Expertise in CAD modeling (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Creo) and finite element analysis (FEA). Deep knowledge of diverse manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, die casting, stamping) and material selection. Preferred Qualifications 10+ years of experience with system-level mechanical design of VR, AR, or high-density mobile electronics. Experience with early-stage new product introduction (NPI) and a track record of successfully launching multiple consumer electronics products. Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering. Proficiency with complex surfacing and Class A cosmetic part design, with experience collaborating directly with industrial design teams. Direct experience with human factors and designing products optimized for comfort and fit on the head/face. Experience working with international vendors and suppliers, especially in Asia, and understanding of global supply chain dynamics. Seniority level
