The Newcastle Search Group has been retained by a leading real estate developer in the Loop to assist with the hiring of an Accountant. Hiring company is located on the west side of the Loop (60606) with easy access from CTA, Union Station and Ogilvy, so an ideal location for city candidates as well as those coming into Downtown Chicago from the suburbs.

Hiring company is operating via a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office and 2 days remote) but is only considering candidates local to the Chicago market.

Summary Assist the Senior Corporate Accountant and Corporate Accounting Manager with managing the Company’s Corporate and Ownership entity accounting functions including month end close and preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules. Provide business management reports for Executive team and external investors.

About the Role Perform activities related to investment and corporate entity accounting functions, including month-end close, timely and accurate financial reporting needed to complete financial statements, financial analysis, budgets, tax returns and audits.

Responsibilities

Manage month end and year end close process, financial statement preparation, account analysis and reconciliations, ensuring consistency with GAAP, modified GAAP and tax reporting.

Track and monitor all internal and external reporting deadlines and commitments; prepare abstracts from legal documents to assist with effective monitoring.

Prepare all investment entity capital calls.

Assist with the company’s cash management systems and processes, including online banking, wire transfers, and bank account reconciliations.

Assist Controller and Corporate Accounting Manager with overseeing financial operations including maintaining accounting principles, practices, procedures, and controls.

Develop understanding of job cost system and project accounting function to increase efficiency and accuracy with the investment entity accounting function.

Collaborate with the Senior Corporate Accountant to maintain the integrity of the accounting software by performing / overseeing regular maintenance and reconciliations; implement new software as needed; train all department employees.

Assist with special projects, including accounting for significant transactions (e.g., acquisitions, dispositions, financing) and providing management with special reports, as requested.

Ideal Background and Attributes

1+ years of accounting experience required.

Strong Excel skills required.

Experience at a real estate or construction firm preferred.

Proficiency in Excel required.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required.
