Job Summary
The School of Medicine (SOM) Financial Planning & Operations (FP&O) team is seeking a
Sr. Financial Analyst, Financial Reporting
to support core financial operations, including reporting, compliance, and accounting activities. This role collaborates with SOM departments and Central Finance to ensure accurate, consistent, and policy‑aligned financial reporting.
Responsibilities
Interpret and review data prepared by others to evaluate past financial performance and make financial projections, assisting management in overall business decisions.
Analyze, coordinate, and consolidate departmental financial information to develop annual operating and/or capital budgets and five‑year plans.
Extract and define complex financial data; plan and conduct studies to determine cost and financial results of business activities, improving operational and financial effectiveness.
Adjust budgets and implement cost improvement measures; use appropriate cost rates such as indirect and benefit rates for proposed budgets; prepare and present budget proposals to senior management.
Create financial systems, structures, and controls to track, validate, and report; implement quality control and process improvements.
Review proposed operating and financial plans, including program increases and estimated costs; recommend action to improve financial performance.
Evaluate and analyze capital expenditure proposals, profit plans, operating records, and financial statements.
Oversee complex budget accounts; ensure funds are expended appropriately and advise stakeholders on resolving funding shortfalls.
Stay abreast of laws and regulations that impact compliance; serve as a resource for administrative and financial staff.
Apply GAAP and funds management principles to ensure accurate, compliant financial reporting.
Maintain and enforce internal controls related to financial master data and funds management policies.
Serve as a subject‑matter expert for reconciling and analyzing financial transactions; provide guidance and training on accounting processes and compliance requirements.
Review and approve master data requests; train departments on internal processes and compliance standards.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
Five years of progressively responsible related financial experience.
Experience applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience preparing financial statements across multiple units.
Working knowledge of the SAP system.
Experience with other data reporting tools such as Tableau.
Technical Qualifications & Specialized Certifications
Strong analytical and modeling capabilities, including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
