Buyer Position in West Hartford
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials, components, and services necessary for production. This role requires the ability to balance cost, quality, and lead times while building strong relationships with suppliers. The Buyer will work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure uninterrupted operations and cost efficiency. Responsibilities include sourcing and purchasing raw materials, parts, and manufacturing supplies as needed, ensuring timely deliveries to support production schedules. The Buyer will evaluate vendor quotes, negotiate pricing and terms, and drive cost improvements without sacrificing quality. They will review and release purchase orders, track delivery status, and resolve any supply or quality issues. Partnering with engineering, planning, and production to understand requirements and anticipate needs, the Buyer will maintain accurate records of supplier contracts, pricing, and performance metrics. They will identify and vet new suppliers, perform risk assessments, and qualify vendors in alignment with company standards. The Buyer will monitor material shortages and expedite orders as required, support inventory management by working with logistics and production teams, and ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements. Essential Skills: 3+ years of purchasing or supply chain experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Experience with ERP systems, such as SAP or Epicor. Negotiation skills and a strong understanding of supplier relationship management. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Strong organization, problem-solving, and communication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications: Experience with small metal parts is a plus. Self-starter who thrives in a fast-moving, collaborative environment. Work Environment: The Buyer will work in a dynamic environment, closely collaborating with cross-functional teams including production, engineering, and logistics. The company frequently uses ERP systems like SAP and Epicor, and experience with these is beneficial. The work involves ensuring compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements, with a focus on maintaining strong supplier relationships and managing supply chain efficiency. Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Hartford, Connecticut. Pay range for this position is $30.00 - $43.00/hr.
