Essential Functions
Possesses a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application. Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists the Registered Nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembling supplies, instruments, and equipment, and proper disposition of specimens; assists with room turnover. Performs duties according to department policies and procedures. Monitors surgical supplies for sterility and ensures proper usage, accurate charge documentation. Documents sterilization activities. Participates in in-services and staff meetings, staying current on department issues and contributing to Performance Improvement. Engages in educational opportunities to enhance competency and meet personal goals. Contributes to developing policies, procedures, and standards. Physical Requirements Works with occasional noise and exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals. Requires communication skills, physical effort such as walking, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, squatting, standing, lifting up to 35 pounds, and fine motor skills for handling instruments. Vision and hearing up to 20 feet, depth perception, color discrimination needed. Must work irregular hours, rotating shifts, and be near moving equipment, with exposure to temperature, humidity, and bloodborne pathogens. Education, Experience, and Certifications High School Diploma or GED required. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or military training equivalent. Certification preferred.
