Description
The Lead Diesel Mechanic inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and maintains diesel-powered vehicles and equipment and supervises and coordinates the work of other mechanics, ensuring timely and quality repairs. They perform a wide range of tasks, including diagnosing engine problems, repairing or replacing parts, and conducting preventative maintenance. This role often involves working on heavy vehicles like commercial trucks and heavy-duty construction equipment.

Responsibilities
• Lead diesel mechanics oversee the work of the other mechanics. Assigning tasks, providing guidance, and ensure that work is completed efficiently and effectively.
• Maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; adjusting and alignments; keeping records
• Determine the vehicles condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests: identifying worn and damaged parts.
• Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing components and part upgrades.
• Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units
• Verifies vehicle performance by conducting tests, driving, adjusting controls, and systems.
• Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors
• Possess, provide and maintain tools necessary to perform tasks related to maintenance
• Maintain a working knowledge of and keep up with the latest technology using technical manuals and attendance of technical training seminars and testing
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading
