Overview:
The
Building Specialist - Special Facilities
is a Full-Time Position. We offer competitive compensation of $20.00 an hour. Our benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending account, 457 plan(s), IMRF Pension, tuition reimbursement, vacation, holidays, sick time and personal days.
This position will typically work Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and in the summer months from Sunday - Thursday.
Job Purpose: The General Maintenance Worker-Special Facilities ensures the upkeep, safety, repair and preventive maintenance of Special Facilities buildings, grounds, equipment and supplies and provides logistical support for the delivery of all programs, special events and services.
Essential Functions: Cleans facilities and grounds Prepares and maintains pools, grounds, ice rink, gymnastics center, dog park for users of the facilities. Performs basic trade tasks including painting, minor carpentry and plumbing using best trade practiceStandards. Performs inspections and informs the Maintenance Manager of the need for repairs and/orImprovements. Prepare facilities for special events including, but not limited to, the annual Ice Rink Show, Day in our Village, Fall Fest and Frank Lloyd Wright Race, gymnastics meet. Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies. Safely operate vehicles, equipment and machinery used in the maintenance of the indoor ice surface, pool water quality, snow removal, facility cleaning, and travel between revenue facility sites. Operates and maintains skate sharpening equipment and skate inventory. Monitors HVAC systems, changes filters, cleans condensers. Monitors compressors and pumps, records daily readings. Monitors and performs basic maintenance of pool filters and chemical feed systems. Perform tasks required for seasonal transitions between aquatic and ice rink operations. Perform daily inspections, ensuring that all buildings are clean, systems are functional and safe conditions exist. Performs basic preventative preventive maintenance for buildings and equipment. Performs snow removal tasks, including use of shovels, snowblowers and plow equipent Assists in training and directing seasonal workers on equipment operation. Effectively uses the Park District Computerized Maintenance Management System to carry out assigned duties. Additional Functions:
Purchase small hardware items. Provides a favorable image of the Park District while working in parks, by answering questions and giving directions. Provides occasional instruction for seasonal workers Participates in training to develop new skills or enhance existing skills Resurfaces ice as assigned or as necessary. Open and closes facilities as needed. Operates Park District Trash Truck on a rotating basis Routinely assigned work tasks with the Parks and facilities team Knowledge, Skills, and Work Experience
Required:
High School diploma or equivalent. Basic knowledge of small engines. Familiarity with basic hand and power tools. Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing and painting. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (Class B with air brakes endorsement) acquired within 6 months of hire so as to pass probation. Condition of continued employment. Good driving record and maintain valid Driver's License / CDL at all times. This position is part of pre-employment drug testing and a random drug and alcohol testing program. Customer Service focus and Interpersonal skills. Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training. Certified Pool Operator Certificate* may be earned on the job, completed within the 6-month probationary period. Recommended:
Familiar with ice rink equipment and maintenance. Familiar with pool filtration and sanitation equipment and maintenance. Familiar with Operation of Zamboni Ice Resurface and Ice Edger. Work Environment, Physical Demands and Considerations:
Frequently Sitting, walking, standing, and reaching. Occasionally Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling and crawling. Strength Work requires digging and handling up to 50lbs, over 50 with assistance with materials or equipment. Other requirements may include operating common office equipment Will be exposed to chemicals such as acids, glues, chlorine and other substances in cleaning solutions. Will be exposed to inclement weather including extreme heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind. Protective clothing is required as it pertains to the job duty. Examples may include safety goggles, glasses, face shields, steel tip work boots, protective rubber or leather gloves, hard hat, paint spray respirator, protective suits and outer wear and back braces. Some exposure to noise, dust, fumes, elevation and confined spaces. Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently. Ability to direct and train seasonal staff. Ability to operate assigned equipment. Ability to keep pace with the workload and effectively interact with others. Ability to perform basic computation including measuring, calculating and estimating. Ability to follow through on a task without immediate supervision. Ability to interpret and explain division and District policies and procedures. Ability to follow good safety practices and exercise judgment in all aspects of the jobs.
