Job Goal:
To provide nursing services and health information to enhance academic achievement and developmental needs of the students
Minimum Qualifications: Must have and maintain a valid license from the Alabama Board of Nursing designated as a registered nurse. Possess and maintain current CPR certification Clinical nursing skills necessary to provide safe care to students with special healthcare needs Knowledge of effective procedures and practice for vision, hearing, and other appropriate health screenings and pediatric nursing practices Possess and maintain a valid driver's license Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 Skills and Physical Abilities: The employee must have physical strength, agility, dexterity, acuity, reflexes, grasping, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, and overall mobility to perform job responsibilities. The employee must be able to lift 10 to 25 lbs. The employee must be able to hear and speak to exchange information in person, on the telephone or school intercom. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with the Supervising RN, administration, parents, faculty and students. Ability to work independently, with empathy, demonstrates initiative, prioritizes tasks, and performs assignments as directed with accuracy, attention to detail, and within established time frames. Ability to organize and maintain accurate records. Ability to utilize technology to communicate, manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence to parents, faculty and students.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Administers First Aid in accordance with established first aid procedures Establish and maintain a comprehensive school health program Aids in the primary prevention and control of communicable diseases Assists students with medications according to established first aid procedures Assists in spinal screening, vision screening, immunization audit, etc. Assists students, families and the school to achieve optimal levels of wellness through appropriately designed and delivered health education Develops health care plans /emergency action plans for students with chronic health conditions. Assists with coordination of PEEHIP screenings for staff and flu vaccination clinics for students as needed. Contribute to the education of the students with special health care needs by assessing the student, planning and providing appropriate nursing care, and evaluation the identified outcomes of care Report potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel. Reports suspected child abuse, domestic violence, and neglect to the Blount County Department of Human Resources (DHR). Serve as liaison between health professionals and the school system regarding the health needs of students Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school and effectively monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory of health/medical items in the school Report absences in accordance with Board policies and procedures Engage in professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics and effective leadership Adheres to the guidelines of the Alabama Board of Nursing and the Nurse Practice Act. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Supervising Registered Nurse or as requested by the principal
Terms of employment:
187-days
Daily work schedule will be determined by the principal or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school assigned.
