RH is seeking a skilled Trim and Nails Assembly Specialist to join our Dennis & Leen/Formations Workshop in Torrance, CA. This artisan role plays an important part in the upholstery department, focusing on the precise application of decorative trims, nailheads, and other ornamental fasteners that enhance the beauty and authenticity of our handcrafted furniture. In this role, you bring steady hands, a meticulous eye for detail, and a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and design.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply decorative trims, gimp, braid, and nailhead accents to upholstered furniture with precision and consistency Align and space nailheads evenly using measuring tools, templates, and hand tools Collaborate with upholsterers to ensure trim placement complements the design and craftsmanship of each piece Match trim styles and finishes to specific furniture periods or customer specifications Inspect finished work for alignment, spacing, and overall aesthetic quality Maintain tools and materials used in trim and nail application Prepare furniture surfaces for trim installation, including marking, measuring, and performing minor adjustments Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace OUR REQUIREMENTS
2+ years of experience in upholstery, furniture finishing, or decorative detailing Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail in high-precision work Familiarity with antique-style furniture and traditional trim techniques Proficient with hand tools such as tack hammers, nailhead setters, and measuring devices Strong visual judgment for alignment, spacing, and symmetry Works independently and collaboratively as part of a team Experience in luxury or custom furniture production preferred Knowledge of historical furniture styles and decorative elements preferred Artistic sense and appreciation for fine craftsmanship preferred PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Handles and positions upholstered furniture components weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly Performs detailed trim and nail application work requiring precision, hand strength, and concentration Stands, bends, and performs repetitive hand movements for extended periods in a workshop environment Works in areas with exposure to upholstery materials, adhesives, and hand tools while adhering to safety and PPE standards Uses manual and power tools requiring dexterity, control, and fine motor coordination
