Job Summary:

Performs a variety of routine and semiskilled tasks involving general maintenance of City facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Essential Functions: Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, common areas, breakrooms; restrooms; stairs and office space; sweep garage; and restock supplies for users; Set up rooms; Check facilities for hazards; Clean mirrors and windows; blinds, ledges, hard surfaces; Pick up and deliver supplies, order supplies; Empties trash and garbage containers; Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities; Replaces air conditioner filters; Notifies supervisor concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment; Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk; Mows lawn, trims shrubbery, and cultivates flowers; Makes routine plumbing repairs (i.e., repairing leaks, unplugging toilets and drains, etc.); replacing light bulbs and fluorescent lights, and making electrical related repairs (i.e., replacing electrical receptacles, etc.); Performs routine carpentry work (i.e., minor paint jobs, installing doors, door stops, cabinet doors, tile, adjustable shelving; Performs preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning HVAC) systems; Sets up and removes folding tables and chairs to assist at community events; Display courteous, civil, and respectful behavior to all persons and shall make every effort to meet the needs of citizens requesting assistance; Refrain from the use of abusive, indecent or profane language or gestures in the workplace, in the performance of duties or in the presence of a member of the public; Perform duties in a manner that is fair, impartial, and without prejudice toward any person or group; Refrain from arguing unnecessarily with any person or otherwise showing a lack of self-control, ridicule, or defame any employee, elected official or any other person or any agency of the City of Columbia; Display responsibility for attendance and promptness and report to the work area on time. Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills:

Must possess computer skills. Ability:

Operates power-driven machinery such as a buffer, drill to complete maintenance work; Uses equipment and tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, saws, trenchers, augers, and other tools commonly used to maintain facilities and associated equipment; Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Tennessee Bureau of Investigations Clearance; Must possess a valid Driver's License.

Preferred Education:

Three to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

One to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Description

$16.88 per hour minimum starting rate.
