MAJOR FUNCTIONS Under the general guidance and leadership of the Director of Quality of Life. This is a position that requires manual labor duties of both skilled and semi-skilled nature. Jobs involve new construction, maintenance, equipment repair, mowing, rights-of-way and drainage systems around the City. This position is designated as an emergency essential position that requires performance of emergency duties and actions to prepare, repair and recover the City before, during and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, tropical storm, winter storm, severe thunderstorm, flash flooding etc.) or other conditions (natural or manmade). ESSENTIAL DUTIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position. Mixes concrete and plaster. Assists in pouring and finishing concrete. Helps build forms, headwalls, installs cement block and brick. Loads and unloads equipment, supplies, tools and materials. Spreads asphalt in patching potholes in road surfaces. Flags and directs traffic. Cleans culverts, gutters, ditches, swales, storm drains, canals and many other similar jobs. Mows and trims grass. Removes and replaces sod, sprinkler heads, groins, catch basins, etc. Digs trenches, removes concrete, trims and prunes trees and shrubbery. Fertilize and spray herbicides. Install storm drainage pipes, curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Picks up trash. May perform custodial duties such as cleaning windows, bathrooms, vacuuming/cleaning carpets, dusting, emptying trash cans, etc. Performs other duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of tools and equipment used in manual labor work. Ability to understand and carry out simple oral or written instructions. Ability to operate mowers, tractors, trucks and a variety of other tools and equipment used in construction work. Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative and team-focused relationships with team members, leadership, other departments and the general public. Possess sufficient physical strength to perform heavy manual labor. Knowledge and skills in the repair and maintenance of asphalt, concrete work and drainage systems. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years' experience in manual labor maintenance and construction work is preferred. Valid Driver's License. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. This position requires moderate exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (i.e. exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment). This position often requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
