General Description
The Orange County Emergency Services Department has an opening for a Crisis Response Community EMT. The work involves providing immediate crisis intervention and support services to persons with the goal of promoting overall stability and minimizing interactions with law enforcement, emergency mental health hospitalization, and incarceration. This is accomplished by providing on-scene response and incident follow-up. A team will respond in person to behavioral health emergencies that do not require a law enforcement response. An employee in this class is a primary medical responder of the Mobile Crisis team and will work alongside a Peer Support Specialist and a Crisis Counselor. The Mobile Crisis team will respond to 911 calls related to mental and behavioral health, substance use, and/or intellectual developmental disability. The work involves administering non-emergency and/or emergency medical care including obtaining vitals and assessing patients. The responsibilities of this position will also include communication with members of the public and co-workers in addition to driving the team response vehicle. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Mobile Crisis Team Supervisor with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, protocols, and procedures in the performance of duties. Supervision of others is not the responsibility of this position. Position does related work as required. * This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required.

Possession of a High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma;
AND
a current EMT Certification recognized in the State of North Carolina
AND
six (6) months of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a pre-employment drug testing, background check and Fitness for Duty assessment. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared. In accordance with Section 28 of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, and/or relevant State and Federal statutes, candidates for employment may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check based on the job responsibilities of the position. A fingerprinting check is conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI)and a criminal history background check is conducted by an authorized Federal or State regulatory agency to determine eligibility for appointment.
