Hyde Park Schools is seeking a College & Academic Counselor to work with our Upper School staff, faculty, students and families.
College Counseling Responsibilities:
Guide students through the entire college application process, starting freshman year, finishing senior year. Partner with students and families during the college admissions process by: developing a college list, preparing necessary documents for application, and offering guidance for college essay writing, resume development, and short answers. Beginning sophomore year, meet with students and families to guide students toward a career and major exploration, advise students on proper course selection, identify relevant extracurricular activity involvement, resume building, summer experience suggestions, and more. Provides families with financial aid and scholarship assistance, nominates students for select scholarships, and maintains a list of scholarships earned by students. Writes clear, personalized, and effective letters of recommendation. Provides guidance to faculty in writing college letters of recommendation. Develop and maintain relationships with College Admission Officers through campus visits, conferences, etc. Continuous awareness of issues and trends in college admissions, higher education, and testing, and maintains professional learning community. Oversees management of and provides parent and student training in the Scoir application. Assists students in meeting admissions, financial aid, and scholarship deadlines. Develop and execute workshops for students and families with relevant college guidance throughout the year Coordinates evening informational meetings for parents and students, college visits, speaker events, summer application workshops, and helps students identify summer enrichment programs. Academic Advising Responsibilities:
Provides direct advising and course selection guidance to students and families in all grade levels, especially for juniors and seniors. Maintains and disseminates information about standardized tests and helps to administer PSAT, PreACT, ACT, and AP exams Serves as the school's point of contact and coordinator for dual credit (college courses taken for both college and high school credit) programs in which the school chooses to participate. Responsible for creating a master course schedule, alongside additional high school administration, for each academic year. Coordinates the process through which students select their course preferences Supports students in danger of failing courses throughout the semester as well as create academic plans for students when needed. Ensure that each student is scheduled in courses that keep them on track to graduate within four academic years of entering high school Notifies the administration of any students who are in danger of being unable to graduate due to a failure to meet Hyde Park High School's graduation requirements Advises students regarding their options for credit recovery Works with other staff to maintain accurate records, including academic reports and transcripts, according to school policy. Additional Responsibilities and Expectations:
Contribute to the Hyde Park Admissions process through presentations, student meetings, interviews, and document evaluation as well as serve on the review committee. Communicates effectively within the school community. Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits. Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students, parents, and staff. Works closely with the Principal and campus leadership team and completes other duties as assigned.
