LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry Oral Surgery Department is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Dental Assistant 1 or 2 in our Baton Rouge location.
These positions are in a Career Progression Group As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Dental Assistant 1 or 2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.
Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.
This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.

There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $15.05 per hour for the Dental Assistant 2 title and $14.06 for the Dental Assistant 1 title with an additional $2.25 per hour worked available for candidates that hold a current DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) certification.You must include all relevant work experience and education on your application. Job Duties and Other Information
Duties & responsibilities but not limited to:
To provide chair side assistance to a licensed dentist, residents, and undergrad student in the General Practice Residency Clinic. a. assist dentist and dental students with chair side treatment of patients b. maintain and stock cabinets/carts c. instruct and evaluates students in proper four-handed dentistry techniques d. chart patients according to LSUSD systems (Axium, Schick CD Rand computer knowledge) e. give follow- up home instructions as directed by dentist or student f. implement and maintain infection control in the work area g. check inventory and order supplies when needed h. implement and follow safety guidelines as set forth by LSUHSC School of Dentistry and OSHA i. know dental terminology j. know correct nomenclature of all dental instruments k. knowledgeable of computers
Core competencies include: Communicating effectively : The ability to relay information correctly and appropriately to connect people and ideas. Focusing on Customers : The ability to serve the needs of those who support and/or rely on the services provided.
