Heavy Civil Estimator – Water & Wastewater Infrastructure Client Location: Charlotte, North Carolina Salary: $120,000 – $150,000 (DOE) + Comprehensive Benefits Our client, a respected heavy civil contractor specializing in large-scale water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and utility infrastructure, is seeking an experienced
Estimator
to join their Charlotte-based preconstruction team. This is a key role for a detail-driven professional who thrives on complex civil projects and takes pride in delivering accurate, competitive, and well-structured bids. Key Responsibilities: Prepare detailed estimates for heavy civil and water/wastewater treatment projects, including all sitework, concrete, piping, process mechanical, and structural components. Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to develop accurate scopes of work and identify cost-saving opportunities. Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes, ensuring full scope coverage and alignment with project requirements. Work closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to develop realistic cost projections and construction approaches. Utilize estimating software and company databases to assemble detailed quantity takeoffs, labor/equipment rates, and production assumptions. Participate in bid reviews, cost reconciliation, and handoff meetings with operations teams. Support value engineering efforts and assist with conceptual and design-build estimates as needed. Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to support long-term business development efforts. Required Experience & Qualifications: Proven experience as an
Estimator
in the heavy civil construction industry, with a focus on water and wastewater treatment facilities. 7+ years of estimating experience within a general contractor or self-performing civil firm. Strong understanding of concrete, earthwork, underground utilities, and process mechanical systems. Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, InEight, or similar platforms. Ability to read and interpret complex civil and mechanical drawings and specifications. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
