Base pay range $156.25/hr - $192.31/hr
Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program award can be up to $200,000, with an eligibility period of one to five years, determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements listed below and any additional requirements (if applicable) in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected, but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
Citizenship: The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) encourages any eligible non-citizens to apply. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA-approved school.
Licensure: Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US state, territory, Commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the VA leading to board certification.
Residents in approved residency programs and otherwise meeting basic requirements may be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Experience: The individual must qualify to perform physician duties, having completed accredited residency and/or possessing experience that enables general duties and some specialized functions without supervision.
Preferred Experience: Board eligible/board certified.
Physical Requirements: Repetitive movements, frequent reaching, standing, walking and lifting of equipment and patients.
Duties
If you are an Interventional Cardiologist – this position can be updated as such.
All cardiologists are encouraged to apply. The role provides access to the EDRP for qualifying loans (up to $200,000, prorated for part-time hours).
Salary may increase above the maximum if candidate meets annual performance metrics.
Provide outpatient and inpatient consultative service as part of the Wilkes-Barre VA Healthcare System.
Core cardiology procedures: cardiac stress testing, cardioversion, echocardiogram interpretation, Holter monitor interpretation, pericardiocentesis, temporary transvenous pacemaker placement, tilt-table testing, use of thrombolytic agents, interpretation of EKGs, fluoroscopy, supplemental procedures, transesophageal echocardiography, nuclear cardiology studies, coronary CTA, and administration of Gp IIb/IIIa and other agents.
