Job Summary

The Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine Division of Laboratory Animal Health (DLAH ) seeks a veterinarian to provide care for traditional laboratory animal species, used in research and teaching programs at Auburn University. In this role, the veterinarian will provide clinical medical care for various animal species used in research and training.

Responsibilities include supporting preventative health and medicine programs, supporting compliance with university and regulatory animal care and use requirements, supporting departmental veterinary staff, providing emergency veterinary care, and contributing to all laboratory animal care and use program aspects.

Essential Functions

Monitor and assist in overseeing veterinary care and provide medical care for sick or injured animals in the Division of Laboratory Animal Health.

Conduct facility rounds in the research animal housing to inspect and ensure animal health and welfare.

Provide on-call weekend and holiday care as well as on site veterinary oversight on a rotational basis.

Interact collaboratively with the Attending Veterinarian, veterinary staff, and research teams regarding animal welfare and research activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM ) or equivalent degree from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA )-accredited veterinary college or its equivalent as defined by theAVMA Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates.

Eligible for veterinary licensure in the State of Alabama

Desired Qualifications

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action

Understanding of health monitoring and disease control

Understanding of best practices for handling sensitive and confidential information
