# Chief Development OfficerInstitute for Nonprofit Practice### Job Description**EXECUTIVE SUMMARY**The **(INP)** transforms communities by equipping social impact leaders—from nonprofits, the public sector, and social enterprises—with the practical skills, networks, and resources they need to confidently and boldly advance social change and make their organizations more effective, innovative, and sustainable.INP’s nationally recognized suite of leadership development programs, community convenings, and robust alumni engagement serves social impact leaders at all career stages who are driving solutions to their communities’ most pressing issues.INP offers three distinct leadership development programs: the RISE Program for early-career leaders; the Core Certificate Program for executives, senior leaders, and middle managers; and the BLI Executive Fellowship for senior leaders. As INP works to fuel a social impact sector and workforce that is deeply connected across city and state lines, INP convenes leaders through both national and place-based cohorts, with place-based sites in twelve locations coast to coast.INP has experienced transformative growth over the last five years. From an annual operating budget of $2.9 million serving 230 leaders and 1,400 alumni in 2020, INP has matured into a dynamic, scaling organization with an $8.1 million annual operating budget, 35 full-time staff members, and 60 part-time faculty members. INP now trains over 650 leaders annually and boasts a national alumni network of over 5,000 leaders. These numbers are expected to rise significantly in accordance with INP’s strategic plan to meet the growing needs of the social sector.**INP is seeking an experienced and innovative Chief Development Officer (CDO) to develop and lead its philanthropic strategy, securing the investments necessary to scale the organization’s national impact**.Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CDO will be a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, partnering with the President & CEO, Board of Directors, a skilled development team, and colleagues throughout the organization to achieve key fundraising goals. The CDO will collaborate closely with the Chief External Engagement Officer (CEEO), who oversees brand development, marketing, communications, and earned revenue through INP’s scaled impact strategy, the Community of Talent Initiative (COTI).This is an exciting time for INP, presenting an incredible opportunity for the right person to join the organization at a critical inflection point in the social impact sector. This is a hybrid role that will require moderate domestic travel and regular in-person meetings with the Executive Leadership Team, prospects, donors, and institutional funders. He set out to address several critical issues he saw as threats to the sustainability and effectiveness of the nonprofit sector – challenges that INP still seeks to remedy today:* An under-investment in leadership development and organizational capacity building.* A leadership succession crisis triggered by the retirement of baby boomers.* The need for leadership that not only reflects the communities served but also leads to higher-performing organizations.In INP’s first year, thirteen students in Boston completed the , which was established to equip nonprofit and public sector executives and managers with resources, relationships, and skills to strengthen their organizations. (BLI) is a national, twelve-month program that connects, inspires, and uplifts senior-level leaders shaping social impact for Black communities across the country and across various sectors.* The

(LLS) is a free series of carefully planned virtual workshops and webinars led by experts and national thought leaders, covering topics that range from strategic leadership frameworks and tactical management resources to mindfulness practices and tools designed to promote holistic well-being.* have ongoing access to timely programs, expert training, resources, and networking opportunities specifically designed for them.Today, INP supports, trains, and connects executives, managers, and emerging leaders across the nation. INP has grown exponentially in terms of budget, staff, faculty, number of program participants, geographical reach, and overall impact, meeting the needs of leaders and their teams as they navigate greater complexity in leading and working within their organizations in the current climate. INP is well-positioned for continued growth. Currently led by President & Chief Executive Officer Yolanda Coentro, an INP alumna of the class of 2014 and a nationally recognized leader, INP continues to innovate and expand its programming and impact across the country.With a proven, award-winning model and a growing network of accomplished alumni, INP is uplifting and uniting nonprofit and public sector leaders as they work and lead.**THE OPPORTUNITY**This is an important and exciting time for INP at a moment of significant change and challenge in the social impact sector. INP is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to join their team as they continue to build on INP’s considerable momentum and expand their efforts to transform communities by equipping social impact leaders across the nation to meet the moment and achieve lasting, transformative change. INP is preparing for a period of transformational growth, including plans to double its operating budget and expand its national footprint through major philanthropic investments and earned revenue. The CDO will play a critical role in ensuring that the organization is financially positioned to scale with integrity, building the systems and relationships necessary to secure multi-year support for INP’s next chapter.Reporting directly to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the CDO will be responsible for all aspects of philanthropic fundraising, donor engagement and stewardship, prospect pipeline development, development operations, board engagement, and data management. They will design and execute effective strategies and processes and develop the necessary infrastructure to deliver outstanding long-term results in a growing national enterprise. The CDO will work closely with the President & Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Directors, the Executive Team, and a dedicated team of fund development professionals to develop and lead a multi-year fundraising strategy that strengthens INP’s financial sustainability.The CDO will also engage in the following opportunities and efforts:**Diversify and grow INP’s revenue streams.** The annual budget at INP is currently $8.1 million. INP aspires to continue its trajectory of strategic growth and projects that the annual budget will be approximately $15 million within the next five years.
