RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an Emergency Medicine Attending to join the Observation Unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. RWJBarnabas Health, the largest integrated healthcare system in New Jersey, is seeking a board-certified/eligible Emergency Medicine Physician to join our team in the Observation Unit/Rapid Decision Unit (RDU) at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position include the delivery of clinical services exclusively in the 15 Bed Observation Unit/Rapid Decision Unit (RDU). This 339-bed, fully accredited acute care community hospital provides comprehensive care services. The Emergency Department at RWJUH-Somerset, which was renovated in 2007, has 42 ED Beds, including a designated fast-track area and an 8-bed emergent psychiatric unit, treating over 50,000 patients annually. RWJUH-Somerset is embarking on a 76,000-square-foot vertical expansion project. The two-story addition will include its Orthopedic Center of Excellence, a 35-bed inpatient unit featuring all-private rooms and a rehabilitation gym. Our robust team is comprised of experienced physicians, skilled advanced practice providers, and dedicated scribes. This is an excellent opportunity for an eager physician to join a well-established, multidisciplinary team that aims to provide high-level care at a community hospital. Located in the heart of the Garden State, Somerville is surrounded by suburban neighborhoods with great schools and downtowns. Founded in 1899, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, provides comprehensive emergency, medical/surgical and rehabilitative services to residents throughout Central New Jersey. The hospital recently completed the final phase of its five-year Cardiology Services expansion project, including renovations to its Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, and related Cardiology Services on the hospital’s second floor. Its cardiac diagnostic testing services include Cardiac PET/CT, angiograms, CT scans, SPECT scans, echocardiograms and ultrasounds. Its Steeplechase Cancer Center provides state-of-the-art outpatient cancer care services, including radiation oncology, 3-D mammography, infusion therapy, a lung cancer screening program, a smoking cessation program, nutritional counseling, and access to the latest treatment and clinical trials in partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute. Each year, the hospital performs about 6,600 surgeries in a wide range of specialties. The hospital is expected to complete a new two-story vertical expansion project in late 2024, which will include 45 inpatient beds for orthopedic and post-surgical patients, with all-private rooms and a therapy gym for orthopedic patients. RWJUH Somerset’s 28-bed inpatient Behavioral Health Unit provides care for ages 18 and older. The hospital’s Crisis Center offers emergency care for patients in crisis situations, including those who are suicidal. The hospital also offers outpatient behavioral health services, including a partial hospitalization program, intensive outpatient treatment and traditional outpatient services. The Eating Disorders Program provides treatment for patients aged 14 and older. Partial hospital and outpatient care are available. The hospital’s maternity unit features modern private rooms, a Level II Intermediate Care Nursery, and 24/7 neonatology and anesthesiology services. It is the first hospital in New Jersey to offer specialized primary care services for LGBTQ+ adults at its Babs Siperstein PROUD Center, including hormone therapy and monitoring, HIV prevention, health education and counseling for ages 18 and older. Outpatient services include radiology, laboratory, wound care, diabetes management, nutritional counseling, and physical, occupational and speech therapy. In addition, the hospital offers outpatient services at convenient locations throughout Central New Jersey, including physical therapy locations in Bridgewater, Flemington, Hillsborough and Princeton; and sleep medicine, cardiac rehabilitation and laboratory services in Hillsborough. A teaching hospital affiliated with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School; the hospital maintains a family medicine residency program with 21 residents.
