About Us

At Viasat, we are on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, we have helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We look for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What You'll Do

This is a role for a hardware engineer within Viasat Government - Secure Network Systems (SNS) who is eager to contribute to a small, fast‑paced team. You will design, document, implement, prototype, and test next‑generation encryption devices on cutting‑edge, high‑speed or ultra‑low‑power digital circuit boards for Layer 3 in‑line network encryptors. You will interface and collaborate with system, programmable logic, software, and test engineers as new capabilities are developed and transitioned into service. In addition, you will provide support to production and product support to help operational networks when required.

The day‑to‑day

You will be responsible for the development and certification of the Next Generation End Cryptographic Unit (ECU) and high‑assurance Cryptographic High Value Product (CHVP).

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • 5+ years hardware design or sustaining experience
  • Foundational knowledge of analog and digital logic and timing considerations
  • Ability to prioritize, be detail‑oriented, and manage multiple tasks in parallel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with a geographically diverse team
  • Ability to document and report on technical solutions/findings
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office products for documentation creation and modification
  • Familiarity with standard test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, power supplies)
  • Familiarity with production‑related processes and common failure modes
  • High aptitude for learning new things
  • Desire to be part of a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and troubleshoot production‑related issues
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and take ownership of tasks and results
  • SECRET security clearance required
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

What Will Help You on the Job

  • Hands‑on experience designing complex digital systems (processors, memory, FPGAs, CPLDs, microcontrollers, networking interfaces)
  • Understanding of high‑speed design techniques (highly preferred)
  • Experience working with DC‑to‑DC converters for derived voltages needed in modern microelectronics

Experience With Schematic Creation

  • Experience doing reviews of CAD PCB designs
  • Experience with timing constraints, analyzing timing results, and implementing design changes to meet constraints
  • Collaboration with large geographically diverse, multidisciplinary teams to create next‑generation products
  • Qualification of new design through series of functional, performance and environmental tests

Salary range

$127,000.00 – $200,500.00 per year. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area, and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is $144,500.00 – $216,500.00 per year.
