Position Overview

A leading regional health system in Southwest Virginia is seeking a Board-Certified Radiation Oncologist for a 13-week locum tenens assignment within a modern, well-supported cancer center.

The provider will oversee and perform comprehensive radiation therapy services including SRS, SBRT, IMRT, and 3D conformal treatment planning using TrueBeam and Eclipse technology.

Coverage begins November 25, 2025 , and includes Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. shifts , no call , and major holidays off .
This position ranks in the Top 10% of Radiation Oncology locum tenens opportunities nationwide , offering $140K for the assignment.

Assignment Highlights
  • Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (8-hour shifts)

  • Call: None - outpatient only

  • Block Coverage: Prefers at least 2 consecutive weeks per month within a 6-month block

  • Patient Volume:

  • Patient Population: Adults only (18+)

  • EMR: Epic & Aria (for treatment documentation)

  • Credentialing Timeline: Expedited - as fast as 30 days for clean files

  • Travel: Airfare, hotel, rental car, or mileage reimbursed

  • Orientation: 16 hours (non-billable)

  • Pay Ranking: Top 10% of Radiation Oncology locum pay nationally

  • HPA Healthcare: Joint Commission-certified agency

Skills & Experience
  • Board Certification: Radiation Oncology (required)

  • Licensure: Active Virginia license (IMLC accepted; not willing to license new)

  • Certifications: BLS (required)

  • DEA: Active Virginia DEA (required)

  • Procedural Skills: Treatment planning, SRS/SBRT, IMRT, 3D conformal

  • Software/Equipment Experience:

    • Mobius, Radformation, .Decimal

    • TrueBeam Linear Accelerator

    • Eclipse Planning System

  • Experience: Any; prior locums or community hospital experience preferred

  • Vaccines: Flu vaccine required; COVID per facility policy

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee and perform external beam radiation therapy including 3D, IMRT, SBRT, and SRS.

  • Perform treatment planning, contouring, and image verification.

  • Collaborate closely with physics, dosimetry, and radiation therapy teams.

  • Supervise and consult with nursing, social work, and support staff for continuity of cancer care.

  • Participate in tumor board discussions as requested.

  • Document all encounters and plans in Epic and Aria systems.

  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety, institutional policies, and ACR guidelines.
