Under general supervision and following established procedures, stains, mounts slides and microscopically studies cells from the human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions. Microscopically examines stained slides from a variety of biological materials to detect cancer or other cellular abnormalities. Searches for minute abnormalities in size, shape, color, and arrangements of cells which may indicate disease. Prepare specimens for examination, utilizing appropriate laboratory techniques and protocols. Classify cells according to established categories. Determine whether cells are abnormal and whether slide should be reviewed and examined by other laboratory personnel. Review and classify all abnormal cases held for Pathologists review; prepare and submit reports to physicians and other authorized personnel. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, professional affiliations. Adhere to compliance with established administrative laboratory policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with laboratory safety, OSHA, accreditation and regulatory requirements. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications

Bachelors degree in cytology or related science, or equivalent education and experience to obtain certification. Registered or registry eligible with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Job Details
