Team Leader (Transportation Design Engineer V)
Maryland Department of Transportation – State Highway Administration – Anne Arundel County.
Grade 21 (7665) – SP# 25-52-12.
Overview / Nature of Work Team Leader within the Traffic Development and Support Division, Geometric Design/Traffic Engineering Operational Analysis Team. Responsibilities include:
Guide, manage, and lead the detailed review of complex engineering designs of traffic control devices and transportation/development projects impacting SHA roadways.
Supervise and manage the review of Design Requests (DRs) for new or modified signals and other traffic control devices.
Oversee the review of Final Design Plans for approved DRs.
Manage review of geometric designs related to large‑scale design‑build projects or developer traffic impact studies.
Ensure all engineering designs adhere to established theories, principles, policies, and standards.
Manage the Specific Service Signing (LOGO) program, Maryland Product Evaluation List (MPEL), and In‑Service Performance of Guardrail End Treatments.
Provide traffic engineering operational and functional direction to other divisions and SHA offices.
Represent SHA at meetings with federal, state, and local agencies, community groups, developers, and the public.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license (appropriate option), with evidence presented at appointment.
One (1) year of experience managing engineering projects as a licensed PE.
One (1) year of required experience in traffic engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of traffic engineering analysis software: Synchro/SimTraffic, Highway Capacity Software, Vissim.
Proficiency in performing and reviewing traffic impact studies, traffic signal warrant studies, and traffic engineering design plans.
Expert knowledge of roundabout design, standards, and guidelines.
Expert knowledge of MUTCD, Highway Safety Manual, or other safety policy standards.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate statewide programs and specific projects.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Excellent internal and external customer service abilities.
Licenses & Certifications
Valid Maryland driver’s license.
