We are looking for an Underwriting Specialist – Property to join our team in Chicago, Illinois.
Responsibilities
Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom‑line targets; negotiate price and terms with key producer partners; proactively manage capacity.
Assess natural catastrophe accumulation and interpret catastrophe modelling scenarios relevant to the Property Line of Business.
Underwrite in line with Company governance frameworks, ensure contract certainty, and utilise global pricing tools.
Maintain accurate policy documentation, file records, and support policy administration and credit control processes.
Support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business, liaising with Market Management on initiatives.
Represent AGCS positively in the market, drive involvement of functional areas in the underwriting process, and maintain strong relationships with key producers and clients.
Qualifications
Proven track record in underwriting profitable commercial property business, with a robust understanding of property products and portfolio.
Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to the Line of Business.
Experience managing underwriting books, analysing trends, and developing portfolio strategies.
Ability to analyse current performance against benchmarks to ensure satisfactory progress.
Understanding of how the market operates, business needs, and customer needs.
Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills; proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Preferably a degree in Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, or Business Administration; progress towards professional insurance qualifications (e.g., CII) is a plus.
Minimum 4 to 7 years of underwriting experience within a complex, global matrix organisation.
Basic understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential applications in business.
