Overview
The City of Healdsburg is looking for enthusiastic Recreation Leaders to help create fun, meaningful, and engaging experiences for our community. We are hiring Recreation Leader I-III positions within the Community Services Department. These roles support a variety of programs, including after-school activities and youth sports, and aim to make a positive impact in local families’ lives.
Positions include the After School Program (Monday–Friday, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm) and Sports (shifts vary between 5:30 pm – 10:00 pm). Recreation Leaders earn a salary of $17.24 – $21.00 per hour. This is a non-benefited, part-time position, no more than 1000 hours per fiscal year.

Position Summary Recreation Leader I-III
— Under general direction provides support to recreation programming and facility staff in the operations of assigned recreation facilities and programs. The Recreation Leader works under the direction of a Recreation Coordinator. Work assignments may be made by higher-level recreation classifications. Duties may vary, and incumbents may not perform all listed duties.
Responsibilities
Assist the general public in a variety of recreation programs.
Answer phones and respond to inquiries about recreation programs and facilities.
Process registration forms; take payments and issue receipts.
Provide support to recreation program coordination staff.
Ensure compliance with applicable City and County laws, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
Perform related work as assigned.
Additional Department Duties
Complete daily logs of recreation center activities; monitor room setup and routine maintenance during evening and weekend hours.
Keep accurate records of attendance at recreation programs or events.
Assist in promoting recreation activities through a variety of promotional media.
Assist in setting up and taking down furniture and equipment.
Collect and record daily revenues; perform related duties as assigned.
Assist in coordinating maintenance and custodial activities.

Education And Experience
Any combination of training and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities. Typical examples include:
Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; supplemental college coursework in recreation, physical education, public administration, or closely related field is highly desirable.
Experience: Recreation Leader I – no professional experience required; Recreation Leader II – equivalent to 1,000 hours of responsible experience; Recreation Leader III – equivalent to two years of responsible experience.
Licenses And Certificates
Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license during employment.
Recreation leaders working with youth groups must be certified free from communicable tuberculosis and provide proof of examination within the past two years; recertification is required on a four-year cycle.
Incumbents must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Duties require mobility in a typical office setting, with vision to read printed materials and use a computer; hearing and speech to communicate. Lift up to 40 pounds. Some accommodations may be available for qualified individuals upon request.
