Structural Design Engineer

to join our dynamic team. This role will build upon experience as a Structural Designer II and collaborate with a team of architects, engineers, modelers and detailers to transform design concepts into detailed structural plans, specifications, and formal calculation packages. You will utilize CAD software and other industry-standard tools to develop accurate and efficient structural designs. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a strong understanding of structural engineering principles are crucial.

Responsibilities

Assist in the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations during a project’s design phase life cycle from conceptual design to construction documents under close supervision and coordination with the Project Manager or Structural Project Engineer. Assist in the completion of construction administration tasks, such as reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and performing site visits, under close supervision and coordination with the Project Manager. Develop structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials. Review and revise designs based on feedback from senior designers and project stakeholders. Perform calculations and analyses to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes and regulations. Utilize CAD software, including Tekla Structures, and other tools to create 2D drawings and 3D models. Collaborate with team members (engineers, modelers and detailers) to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality design solutions within budget. Participate in internal and external project design meetings to gain practical knowledge of project requirements. Stay updated with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques and technologies. Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement within the company. Contribute to a culture of leadership and accountability, supporting project delivery and continuous learning.

Required Skills and Abilities

In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards. Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques for informed decision-making and regulatory compliance. Ability to identify and analyze problems, propose solutions, and make informed decisions; strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration within the project team. Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple project tasks in a fast-paced environment. Keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in design plans, specifications, and construction documentation. Ability to work effectively in a team with diverse stakeholders, including active listening, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Adaptability to changing project plans and unexpected challenges. Proficiency in CAD software and other tools used in structural engineering and project management. Desire to stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes.

Education and Experience

Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Structural focus. Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license and NCEES record setup for licensure. Four years of experience in the building structural engineering field.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work from a computer for prolonged periods. Ability to travel to project sites around the country. Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds if needed.
