Accounting Manager Responsibilities
Monthly Close and General Accounting: Lead the monthly accounting close process, ensuring timely and accurate recordation of all operational activity. Prepare detailed balance sheet and income statement support schedules each month. Record journal entries for accruals, prepaid expenses, payroll, management fees, and other recurring items. Maintain fixed asset schedules, ensuring proper capitalization and recording of monthly depreciation and amortization. Record and reconcile debt service, including principal, interest, and escrow accounts. Accrue property taxes, utilities, and other operating liabilities, demonstrating a clear understanding of tax calculations and expense allocation. Cash Management and Revenue Accounting: Record monthly rental and ancillary income, ensuring proper reconciliation of cash receipts. Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and maintain accurate cash flow records. Analyze and record prepaid rent, bad debt expenses, and tenant security deposits, reconciling to subsidiary ledgers as needed. Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports for internal and investor review. Perform income and expense variance analysis against budget, providing detailed explanations for significant fluctuations. Execute monthly and quarterly forecasting of income, expenses, and cash flow. Assist with quarterly consolidations or compilations of financial data and provide accounting support for assigned funds. Complete ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as requested. Budgeting, Audit, and Compliance: Support annual budget preparation and forecasting processes in collaboration with Asset Management and Finance teams. Coordinate annual audit requests, preparing workpapers and supporting documentation for external auditors. Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and GAAP standards. Collaboration and Cross-Functional Support: Partner with Asset Managers to ensure accurate classification and capitalization of fixed assets and operating expenses. Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting. Perform other related duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, or related field is required Public accounting experience is a plus 3+ years of experience in a Real Estate accounting environment - residential or commercial Understands internal controls for real estate operations and accounting Knowledge of accounting and reporting in funds Strong knowledge of GAAP, modified cash basis, and cash basis accounting Seniority level
