Overview

Head of Experience Insights & Assumption Management – Full-Time, Boston, MA or Springfield, MA. MassMutual is looking for an exceptional, well-rounded, highly motivated and collaborative actuary to lead the Experience Insights & Assumption Management team of 10+ professionals within the Corporate Actuarial team. The Head will partner with Corporate Actuarial, business and stakeholders to develop robust data pipelines, monitoring capabilities, and translate experience trends into actionable insights for senior management. Responsibilities

Lead the experience analysis and assumption-setting processes across MassMutual’s insurance product portfolio, ensuring robust, transparent assumptions aligned with enterprise objectives and governance standards. Manage a team of 10+ professionals performing experience studies and developing actuarial assumption recommendations across mortality, longevity, morbidity, terminations, lapses, premium persistency, and policyholder behavior. Oversee data-driven insights: generate actionable findings from experience studies, communicate impacts to earnings, and present to CFO-level leadership and select committees (e.g., Product Advisory Committee, UW Surveillance Committee). Develop and implement best practices for experience studies across lines of business; understand downstream implications for valuation, pricing, risk management, and other applications. Lead the development of tools and reporting to support storytelling around business results and connection of experience trends to financials. Ensure adherence to corporate and actuarial standards on assumption development; participate as a voting member on governance and sub-committees (Life, Health, Annuity, Institutional, etc.). Drive strategy for COMET (Continuous Monitoring Experience Tool) and experience pipelines; collaborate with Actuarial Data Science and other partners to mature feedback loops. Stay informed on underwriting and predictive model changes; provide thought leadership and quantify impact of assumption changes with Pricing teams. Engage with industry groups (e.g., SOA LIMRA Experience Studies Advisory Council) to inform methodologies and updates. Establish credibility and executive presence to drive ideas forward and translate insights into action; partner with Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, Data Science and other stakeholders. Contribute to Corporate Actuarial thought leadership and maintain a positive team culture. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), or equivalent credential 10+ years of actuarial experience (U.S. market preferred) in pricing, valuation, financial planning, CFT/ALM, reinsurance and/or experience studies Strong knowledge of US life, annuity, and health products; experience with comparing and managing product risks/assumptions Analytical, self-motivated, independent with strong problem-solving skills; able to navigate complexity and ambiguity Effective time management, planning and organization Strong written and verbal communication and influencing skills; able to present to senior management Ability to build and maintain cross-functional relationships Experience with data science, analytics and visualization tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Tableau/Power BI, Alteryx) and leveraging AI tools Experience presenting research or participating in industry groups is a plus What to Expect as Part of MassMutual and the Team
