Position : AI&T Engineer – Electrical (System-Level Test Focus)

Location : Broomfield, CO

Position Type : Full-time, on-site

Mission : High Frontier – Orchestrate the Testing That Proves Spacecraft Readiness

At Karman+, we’re building spacecraft systems that will take us beyond Earth orbit. For the High Frontier mission, we need a system‑focused AI&T engineer to plan and execute system‑level testing. This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of systems, software, and electrical engineering, ensuring our spacecraft is fully operational before launch.

What it takes to be successful in this role

As an AI&T engineer, you'll own the planning and execution of system level testing in FlatSat/HITL environments and on the flight vehicle. You'll develop test plans, manage test scripts, and ensure smooth collaboration between engineering teams during major test campaigns. This position requires a system‑level view and a willingness to get hands‑on with test execution, data analysis, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of the planning and execution of flight vehicle system‑level tests.

Tests may include power distribution, GNC phasing, RF compatibility, self‑compatibility, vehicle TVAC, FSW load, prop system functional, or mission simulations.

Take responsibility for the health and safety of the flight vehicle during powered testing.

Perform electrical mates and measurements (BOBs, DMM, oscilloscope, etc.).

Command and control the vehicle during powered testing.

Take ownership of FlatSat (HITL) system level test/integration planning and execution.

Functional testing to ensure ~100% FSW test coverage.

Closed‑loop simulation tests for launch/activation, cruise, encounter, and off‑nominal scenarios.

General debugging and troubleshooting.

Flight vehicle test dry‑runs.

Flight operations products vetting prior to uplink.

Maintain a balance between automated software development testing, system‑level manual testing, and FlatSat hardware safety.

Develop, maintain, and version control:

Test configurations: hardware, harness mates, FSW and GSW versions, simulation versions.

Test products: scripts (Python), onboard sequences (Lua), vehicle configuration files, simulation configuration files, written procedures (Epsilon3).

Test results: real‑time telemetry (COSMOS), onboard recorded telemetry, as‑run written procedures (Epsilon3), supplemental data from serial buses, images/video, and non‑conformance/issues encountered during the test – driving solutions with supporting teams.

Collaborate with the broader team in test campaign preparation and execution.

Lead procedure and test readiness reviews.

Lead post‑test meetings.

Collaborate with subsystem teams to expedite troubleshooting.

Ensure all test personnel follow good vehicle powered test practices.

Ensure all EGSE and test harnessing are ready for each campaign.

Coordinate with mechanical AI&T personnel to plan powered testing around build operations.

Own continuous improvement of system‑level testing.

Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency in test campaigns.

Standardize test documentation, data collection, and reporting.

Capture lessons learned to improve future mission test campaigns.

What You Bring

Hands‑on experience planning and executing spacecraft system‑level tests (initial power‑on, functional, mission simulations, etc.).

Strong understanding of system verification and validation processes.

Familiarity with GitLab or other repository tools.

Ability to analyze test data, document results, and track anomalies to closure.

Experience in relevant software areas (Python, Bash, Linux‑based OS, LabVIEW, etc.).

Experience working with electrical test equipment (DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, BOBs, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, etc.).

Experience using ground command/control software (COSMOS, InControl, NASA ASIST, or similar).

Experience building and maintaining FlatSat or HITL environments.

Some exposure to spacecraft dynamics simulation and its uses in system level testing.

Strong understanding of spacecraft flight software architecture.

BS in Systems, Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering (or related technical field).

Bonus If You Have

Experience developing test data analysis tools.

Experience leading multi‑day, multi‑discipline spacecraft test campaigns (on the floor or operating the vehicle on‑console).

Flight operations experience.

Requirements

BS or MS in engineering, aerospace engineering, or related technical field.
