We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineering (EE) Manager to join our Electrical Technologies Power Electronics Design Team located in Rancho Bernardo. We are looking for someone with drive, talent, and experience in the industry’s latest Power Electronics and Electrical Systems solutions who also thrives in a fast-paced, Research and Development (R&D) environment. The successful candidate will report to the Manager of Power Electronics and, alongside high-caliber engineering and management staff, will be engaged in the engineering support and new development of Power Electronics and Electrical Systems for high-power motor drives, power conditioning systems, high-energy laser systems, lithium-ion battery systems, advanced aerospace and electro-optic sensors, space-based optical communications, nuclear thermal propulsion, cutting-edge technology ventures into Defense and “NewSpace,” and a variety of disruptive technologies in the expanding product portfolio of GA-EMS.
Responsibilities
Plan, manage, and oversee the technical performance of an engineering unit through all phases of assigned projects, from inception to completion.
Collaborate with technical staff, program managers, and executive management to define and implement technical, schedule, quality, business, and financial objectives for the unit.
Work with GA-EMS Engineering staff to develop, design, integrate, and test power electronics solutions across product lines, including high-power motor drives, power conditioning systems, laser systems, battery systems, aerospace sensors, space-based optical communications, nuclear propulsion, and disruptive technologies.
Establish design concepts, criteria, and engineering efforts for product research, development, testing, and integration.
Serve as a primary contact for engineering activities, interacting internally with engineering teams and externally with suppliers, vendors, or customers to resolve technical issues.
Support the preparation of proposals, business plans, work statements, specifications, operating budgets, and financial terms for contracts.
Attract, retain, and develop technical talent to maintain leadership in engineering excellence.
Identify engineering challenges and lead the development of solutions, including resource allocation and specification adjustments.
Generate electrical architecture solutions, perform engineering analyses for systems and circuits, document findings, and present results to stakeholders.
Formulate long-term plans and coordinate solutions development, including documentation, reporting, publishing, and technical presentations.
Represent the company as a prime technical contact on contracts and projects, interacting with senior external personnel on technical matters requiring coordination across organizations.
Support the development and expansion of business opportunities through technical leadership and innovation.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Salary information indicates a full-time role with a listed salary range.
Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in engineering or a related technical field with eleven (11) or more years of progressively complex engineering experience, including 5+ years in management. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Ability to obtain DoD Security Clearance is required.
Required Experience: Expertise in power electronics, including both analog and digital circuit design.
Desirable Experience:
Familiarity with power systems, power supplies, multiphase DC-to-DC converters, embedded controls, and microprocessor control of power supplies.
Experience guiding designs through development and into production.
Knowledge of DoD technical review processes (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR).
Expertise in hardware systems, including digital, analog, RF, laser, and optical technologies.
Desired Skills:
Proficiency in PCB design software (e.g., Altium Designer).
Experience with circuit modeling and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
Familiarity with power system design tools (e.g., MATLAB Simulink, PLEXIM PLECS, Ridleyworks).
Knowledge of signal/power integrity tools (e.g., HyperLynx).
Strong project management skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Project and PowerPoint.
Demonstrate extensive technical expertise and the ability to organize, plan, and coordinate workloads of an engineering unit to meet deadlines with project leadership experience.
Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them in an evolving environment.
Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals.
Capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact.
Customer-focused and able to formulate plans based on the development of innovative new designs to resolve advanced technical engineering problems.
Some travel and extended work schedules may be required.
Additional Job Type: Full-Time
Salary range: 125,810 - 229,670
Location: San Diego, CA ( Rancho Bernardo area ), with possible relocation and travel as required by project needs.
