Data Modeler - Manager - Consulting - Miami/South Florida at EY. The opportunity focuses on leading data modeling efforts, cloud analytics, and team leadership with emphasis on Databricks and related data architecture. Key Responsibilities
Understand and analyze business requirements to translate them into technical requirements. Design, build, and operate scalable data architecture and modeling solutions. Lead the design and development of conceptual, logical, and physical data models for the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), adhering to Kimball dimensional methodology. Design and implement star schemas (Fact and Dimension tables) to support analytics, BI, and reporting with high performance. Define and model Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD), with emphasis on SCD Type 2, for historical context over time. Collaboratively determine the appropriate grain for fact tables and identify measurable facts and their relationships to dimension tables. Design denormalized dimension structures to reduce joins and simplify querying for end-users and analytical tools. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and align data models with business needs. Create and maintain data dictionaries and metadata repositories to ensure data model consistency and integrity. Identify and resolve data model performance issues to optimize database performance. Manage and provide guidance to a small team (1-3 resources). Document and communicate data model designs and standards for organization-wide understanding and compliance. Create source-to-target mapping (STM) documentation and data transformation specifications for ETL/ELT, including SCD Type 2 logic and surrogate key generation rules. Stay current with industry best practices in data modeling and incorporate new techniques. Guide the team on implementing Kimball dimensional modeling. Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support data analysis and business intelligence. Utilize data modeling tools (e.g., Erwin, PowerDesigner, ER/Studio) to create models and manage version control. Cloud knowledge and certification are an advantage (preferably Azure DP-203). Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in STEM 10+ years of hands-on experience in data modeling Strong understanding of SQL and data modeling concepts such as Kimball dimensional modeling Experience with major enterprise relational databases or cloud data warehouses (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server) Strong understanding of data warehousing principles, ETL/ELT, data quality management, and metadata management Mastery of SCD Type 2; familiarity with Type 1, 3, 4, 6 Ability to analyze complex business processes and translate requirements into precise data models Proficiency in data modeling tools (Erwin, Visio, PowerDesigner) Experience designing and implementing database structures and maintaining data models Knowledge of best practices for data modeling and database design Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and gather data requirements Experience in performance tuning and optimization of queries Cloud certification is an added advantage Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and documentation skills Knowledge in Hospitality Domain is mandatory Ideally, you’ll also have
