Overview The YMCA of Upper Palmetto is seeking an Aquatics Director for its Baxter Close Branch located in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Position Summary

Develops, organizes, and implements high-quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.

Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.

Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.

Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Purchases equipment, parts, and supplies approved by the Branch Manager.

Collaborates with the Branch Manager/Regional Vice President to establish systems for regularly scheduled pool inspections to ensure proper and efficient working order at all times.

Conducts and/or schedules lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, and CPR trainings.

Oversees swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets to promote retention of existing members and engagement of new members. Directs staff to support aquatic initiatives to achieve retention goals.

Coordinates and supervises the summer swim team.

Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information to members and the community.

Collaborates with the Executive Director to plan and manage the annual Aquatics Department budget. Controls payroll and department purchasing costs within budget and financial guidelines to meet fiscal objectives.

Assists in YMCA fundraising activities. Identifies and recruits active volunteers for the Annual Campaign.

Promotes the YMCA in special events among the members and community.

Ensures proper implementation of aquatic schedules and procedures to maximize opportunities for member/staff connections. Increases program and pool participation through product knowledge and interactions with existing and potential members. Collaborates with department leaders to maximize enrollments in program registration and pool usage, and works effectively with all departments to achieve desired results.

Other duties as assigned by the Branch Manager/Regional Vice President.

Qualifications

Three to five years’ experience in aquatics or a customer service-related field preferred.

Three to five years’ experience in staff supervision and leadership preferred.

YMCA aquatics or operations experience preferred.

Microsoft Office proficiency required.

Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of Child Abuse Prevention; CPR for Professional Rescuer; First Aid; AED; Oxygen Administration certification; Bloodborne Pathogens.

Current Lifeguard certification required. YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification, YMCA Pool Operator on location certification, or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required within 60 days of hire.

Current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.

Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours, weekends and holidays.

May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity to operate phones, keyboards, and other equipment.

May be required to work outdoors for extended periods. May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures, and to wet and/or humid conditions in swimming pool areas.

Must possess auditory, verbal, and visual capabilities to communicate via phone and in person.

Must possess the physical ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a professional water rescue.

Must be able to work with hazardous chemicals (e.g., pool chemicals, cleaning solutions, disinfectants).
