The Lake School is seeing an inspirational and experienced
Preschool Director
to lead our community. This is a unique opportunity for a mission-driven professional to work for our well-established preschool in Oakland, CA. This role will oversee all aspects of the school from educational leadership and community engagement to administrative and operational management. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with a passion for fostering a positive learning environment for students, supporting our dedicated staff, and building strong relationships with our families. We value collaboration, playfulness, and creativity in everything we do. Key Responsibilities
Educational and Community Leadership:
Serve as the primary leader and public face of the school, upholding its mission and values. Build and maintain strong relationships with students, families, and staff, providing guidance and support. Lead communication efforts, including drafting the weekly newsletter and overseeing website content.
Staff Management:
Recruit, select and retain quality staff Promote professional development and provide guidance to staff to help them grow and succeed. Oversee people management functions, including conflict resolution, staff scheduling, and performance feedback
Operational Oversight:
Ensure the school is compliant with all state licensing, legal, and safety regulations. Manage the school's budget and oversee financial operations. Develop and implement safety plans and lead crisis management efforts.
Curriculum and Academic Program:
Provide guidance on curriculum development Support staff in implementing best practices in education.
Qualifications
Required:
Deep understanding of childcare licensing and compliance requirements Must meet or have a willingness to attain any state-mandated licensing requirements for this director position Strong background in early childhood education Proven leadership in educational settings Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of play-based learning philosophies Proficiency in financial management and budgeting
Nice to Haves:
Background as a preschool director or educational administrator Experience working within a non-profit organization
