Overview
California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is recruiting for an Emergency Services Coordinator (ESC) for the Coastal Region. The position will be primarily based in Santa Cruz County with frequent travel around Northern California. Applicants only need to submit one application package to be considered for this position.
The assignment involves understanding state and federal regulations and local government requirements related to declared emergencies and recovery programs. The ESC will be part of a team of field Coordinators within the Regional Operations Coastal Branch and must be able to work independently as well as contribute as a team member. The role requires the ability to work in a demanding and changing environment, respond to short-term tasks, and meet regulatory and internal deadlines.
Responsibilities
Serve as the interface between local and state government and act as a project lead, thinking creatively and applying solutions-oriented work principles.
Provide a wide variety of emergency management advisory functions in support of local and tribal governments, regional staff, and state agencies.
Maintain effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Respond to all forms of disasters and emergencies at any hour and location within the state, within short time frames.
Meet regulatory and internal deadlines on all assignments.
Qualifications Knowledge requirements:
Emergency Services Act (ESA), Incident Command Systems (ICS), Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS)/National Incident Management System (SEMS/NIMS), Emergency Support Functions (ESF), Recovery Support Functions (RSF), Emergency Management Mutual Aid (EMMA), Cal OES Emergency Management Software system (CalEOC), and the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG).

Possess exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and confidently.
Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; willing to learn new tools.

Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and recommend effective actions.
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to manage complex and sensitive issues.
Working Conditions
Hybrid Telework:
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule; additional in-office days may be required based on business need.
DMV Pull Program:
Participation is required. A valid Driver’s License is required; provide DL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements/restrictions on the application.
Conflict of Interest (COI):
This position is designated under the COI Code and requires Form 700 within 30 days of appointment.
