Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager
to assist with current client development, new business development, and industry awareness. This position requires prior consulting experience and FERC experience. The role focuses on energy projects with responsibility for advancement of permitting and compliance for Natural Gas Act-regulated projects in the United States, including natural gas transmission and LNG. A broad knowledge base on the
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
and related energy and environmental policy is required. This position can be based anywhere in the U.S. The Principal Project Manager will collaborate with ERM teams/Partners to provide industry-leading service to a portfolio of clients; participate in industry working-groups related to policy changes or new initiatives; and stay aware of market conditions and industry trends. The candidate will manage multiple clients’ development activities concurrently and cultivate new business by identifying project opportunities and conducting client outreach. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The successful candidate must manage varying priorities to deliver high-quality project outcomes on time and within budget, using initiative, critical thinking, and creativity for research, approaches, presentations, and issue resolution. This role offers an opportunity to advance an environmental career with a global leader and expand ERM’s natural gas pipeline and LNG capital project delivery service line, with opportunities to support ERM’s hydrogen, renewables, and carbon sequestration focus areas. Responsibilities
include leading and coordinating projects to meet scope, budget, staffing, scheduling, and risk management; acting as client point of contact; guiding an inter-disciplinary team to support environmental impact assessment and regulatory permitting; ensuring environmental compliance during construction, commissioning, start-up, and operations; managing multiple projects, including major natural gas and LNG developments and related energy projects across the United States; generating technical proposals, identifying new leads, and supporting business development; maintaining client relationships for repeat business; leading meetings with regulatory agencies to address requirements; engaging with key agencies including FERC, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, NMFS, EPA, land management agencies, and State Historic Preservation Offices; contributing technical, subject matter expertise and quality control on environmental deliverables. Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Studies, Planning, Geography, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related natural resources science field, or equivalent experience. • Prior consulting experience required. • 6+ years (10 years preferred) of environmental impact assessment and natural resources permitting experience on FERC-regulated projects, including consulting for private-sector clients. • At least 5 years of experience managing the permitting of large natural gas and LNG projects, including oversight of complex FERC applications. • Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations (e.g., NEPA, Clean Water Act Section 404, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 10, NHPA Section 106, Endangered Species Act Section 7). • Experience with federal, state, and local permitting. • Strong MS Office proficiency. • Ability to research and prepare concise, accurate technical documents. • Keen attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team. • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including ability to convey complex technical concepts to staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders. Salary and Benefits
The anticipated annual base pay range is $129,195 – $152,500 (USD). Final pay is based on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, travel, and business needs. Some roles may offer compensation outside this range. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus. A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including paid time off, parental leave, medical, dental, vision, life, disability and AD&D insurance, and retirement plans (401(k) or equivalent).
