Overview
City of Palo Alto - The Athletic Director will coordinate and monitor the day-to-day activities of the middle school sports program at JLS Middle School with guidance from the Recreation Coordinator. The position is on-site at JLS Middle School and involves direct interaction with participants, coaches, parents, school staff, and city staff. The role emphasizes customer service to students, parents, coaches, league participants, City of Palo Alto staff, and school administration. Programs for the Middle School Athletics program occur from September to May, aligning with the school year. Responsibilities
Verbal and written communication with parents, coaches, league members, school staff, and city staff Plan and coordinate practice and game schedules with school coaches and sports league athletic directors Recruit coaches for all sports programs offered Set up facilities and fields for sports programs Maintain inventory of sport-specific items and jerseys Ensure facilities are maintained and safety procedures are followed Monitor practices and games Scorekeeping for home games On-time and available Monday through Friday, primarily between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm Office located at a Palo Alto middle school Report to Recreation Coordinator overseeing Middle School Athletics programming Other duties as assigned Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Positions require at least 2 years of experience and specialized skills or advanced certifications in a related field, including: Summer Camps Teen Outreach Leaders Coaches Substitute Teachers Sports Camp Leaders (CPR and First Aid) Sport Officials (CPR and First Aid) Pool Manager Gymnastics/Dance Instructors (Recreation Leader II requirements and Safety Certification and one of the following certifications: Professional Development Program II, Kinder Accreditation for Teachers or Movement Education and Learning Development) Supplemental Information
This is an SEIU Hourly (limited-benefits) position budgeted to not exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year. The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment. The City of Palo Alto is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
