Description of Position A Family Partner has experience as a caregiver of a youth with significant mental health needs. Family Partners work closely with the Care Coordinators, clinicians and Program Directors to help the parent(s) or caregiver(s) of the youth by teaching the parent/caregiver how to navigate the child-serving systems, identifying available services and supports in the community, and developing connections with self-help or support groups. The FP is part of a multidisciplinary team and should have strengths in cultural humility, time management, knowledge of community resources, and advocacy skills.
Job responsibilities
Utilize personal and professional life experience to provide non-judgmental, unconditional peer support to parents and caregivers served by the CBHC.
Engage in a collaborative relationship with caregiver and support the parent/caregiver in meeting their youth’s needs.
Serve as a bridge to ensure that family and providers understand each other’s perspective and information.
Model effective coping techniques for parents and caregivers.
Promote parent/caregiver empowerment by including linkages to peer/parent support and self-help groups in the community.
Teach the parent/caregiver how to identify formal and community-based resources (e.g., after-school programs, food assistance, housing resources, etc.).
Work is primarily located in our Taunton clinic. Services are being provided via both in-person sessions and telehealth.
Requirements
High school diploma/GED or college diploma and a minimum of 2 years working with children/families
Experience as a caregiver of a youth with emotional and/or behavioral health needs
Experience navigating any of the child/family-serving systems and advocating for family members involved with behavioral health systems
The candidate must possess good organizational skills, as well as effective verbal, written and computer skills.
Proficiency with computers including ability to use or learn to use an electronic health record system, audio-visual communication technology (i.e. doxy or Zoom), and some use of Microsoft Office suite for emails, internal document access, and organization.
