Departmental Overview

The College of Environmental Design (CED) is a multi-faceted academic unit with three departments (architecture, city & regional planning, and landscape architecture & environmental planning) and related programs. The CED Undergraduate Advising Office supports students in achieving timely graduation and fosters student achievement, intellectual curiosity, and personal growth. The unit works with campus partners to help students achieve educational and career goals. The CED undergraduate program serves 600+ undergraduates across Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Studies, and Sustainable Environmental Design. Salary & Benefits

This range factors in experience, skills, education, and internal equity. Salary offers are based on final candidate qualifications and experience. Responsibilities

45% Academic Advising Provide expert-level, holistic advising for prospective, new, and continuing students; address complex issues; support degree planning, course selection, transfer issues, internships, career and graduate school planning, study abroad, and personal matters. Guide student transitions from high school or community college to CED through individual contacts, orientation programming, and transition courses. Assist students in developing long-term academic plans aligned with values, abilities, and goals; promote engagement in enrichment opportunities. Interpret and apply campus and University policies; advise on academic policies and petition processes when exceptions are needed. Verify degree requirements, monitor progress toward degree, and manage progression to degree and related policies. Identify and address academic difficulties and provide referrals when appropriate. 30% College-Wide Policy, Analysis, Evaluation, Graduation, and Adjudication Oversee evaluation and certification of degrees and minors; coordinate transfer course evaluation; participate in faculty review processes. Serve on the College’s Dean’s Conference; advise on decisions affecting policy and potential precedents. Exercise independent decision-making on policy matters in consultation with the Dean, including petitions and status decisions. Analyze policy implications and recommend solutions; coordinate with campus offices as needed. Maintain the CED College Policy log and support policy development and implementation for changes in major requirements, readmission, substitutions, and deadlines. Provide data and analysis to identify student needs and support retention and success. 15% Study Abroad Program Management Manage CED study abroad initiatives and related programs; oversee progress reporting and program effectiveness. Set program goals, priorities, and deadlines; benchmark with peer colleges to improve outreach and engagement. Direct staff and supervise program-related work; create procedural guidelines for the project; educate stakeholders on policy issues. 5% Academic Curriculum Consultation Collaborate with department leadership to monitor student issues, enrollment, and curriculum; advise on policy and planning to align with campus rules. Support curriculum planning to ensure sequence integrity and compliance with policies. 5% Events and Professional Development Assist with planning and delivering high-visibility events and workshops on academic strategies and enrichment programs. Encourage professional development through training, conferences, and committees; support advising colleagues’ development. Required Qualifications

Demonstrated advanced counseling and advising skills with experience in higher education student services. Advanced knowledge of multicultural counseling theories and student development. Experience with historically underrepresented communities, low-income students, and first-generation college students. Knowledge of advising methodologies, mentoring, group facilitation, coaching, and advocacy. Strong organizational skills, initiative, ability to multi-task, and meticulous attention to detail. Ability to work with diverse faculty, students, staff, and public stakeholders. Analytical skills to evaluate complex policies and transfer credit evaluations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Equal Employment Opportunity
