Administrative Assistant 1
(GGU, range 12). This position is open to Alaska Residents only and is in the
General Government Bargaining Unit
(GGU). What You Will Be Doing
This position provides in-depth administrative support to the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM), including office management, policy implementation, travel coordination, payroll, human resources, fiscal oversight, and assistance during emergency and disaster response activities, ensuring smooth organizational operations and effective emergency management. Who We Are Looking For
Writing: Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information in a succinct and organized manner; produces written information suitable for the intended audience. Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; works with minimal supervision; demonstrates initiative and commitment. Flexibility: Open to change and new information; adapts to new information, changing conditions, or obstacles; handles ambiguity. Attention to Detail: Thorough and conscientious about detail. Minimum Qualifications
Six months of advanced clerical experience (e.g., Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, or similar classes with the State of Alaska or equivalent). OR Six months of any combination of post-secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience. (Three semester or four quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.) Special Note and Examples of Advanced Clerical Experience
Examples include: Reviewing complex or questionable applications or documents and determining accuracy; tracking expenditures; and completing administrative paperwork according to regulations. Composing letters and memoranda; completing and reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy using information from multiple sources and established guidelines. Other Important Information
Background check: A federal background check may be required to qualify for military base access; fingerprinting may be included. Successful offers are conditional on background check and DBIDS card issuance. A valid Alaska Driver License, proof of vehicle insurance, and Alaska vehicle registration may be required if using a private vehicle. Special Note: Some employees may need to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). A background investigation will be conducted as part of the examination process.
