Overview

A Research Scientist performs a variety of lab and/or field experiments which require competency with standard scientific techniques and equipment in disciplines such as molecular biology, microbiology, genomics, physiology, and pathology/microscopy. Work requires practical and basic theoretical knowledge to perform these techniques and to modify them as needed, in consultation with the principal investigator or designee. Competency in standard methods of analysis of the results is expected. Provides data or figures of publication quality for manuscripts or grants. Responsibilities

30% Managing transgenic mouse colony, genotyping, and performing BSL-1 and BSL-2 research related to cardiovascular diseases. 20% Generation of non-surgical cardiovascular-disease animal models (mice and rats) and conduct BSL-1 and BSL-2 research using these animal models. 20% Designed and direct the scientific direction of the projects using molecular/cell biological techniques under the supervision of Principle Investigator. 20% assisting with the preparation of common chemical/buffers for lab members, lab organization, updating lab protocols, and assistance with regulatory inspection compliance. 10% Attending weekly laboratory meetings and meeting with Principle Investigators to discuss progress and to develop work-plans. Practice safe work habits at all times, be knowledgeable about and adhere to university policies and procedures and complete required training as necessary. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's in a natural, physical or medical science or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with a B.S., and a combination of related education and work/volunteer experience with a minimum 1 year in cardiac mitochondrial research or a related field. Experience in molecular/cell biological methods and/or in vivo cardiovascular disease models. Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree. Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S. SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed: (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree; (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree; (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree; (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
