Serco supports the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) in building and deploying high‑fidelity submarine simulation, training and analysis products for the U.S. Navy. As a Linux Engineer on our system integration team, you will work with the latest Intel‑based servers, Linux cluster configurations and virtualization architectures, including Red Hat KVM, to design, install, monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot our large‑scale system of systems for high‑fidelity simulation, training and analysis.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, system services, application software and system management tools on Linux systems, both natively and within virtual machines.

Collaborate with the team to monitor and test applications, virtual machines and containers to identify issues with installation and performance.

Troubleshoot IT systems to diagnose and implement potential solutions.

Support physical hardware installation of IT computing equipment and cabling at local and remote sites.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with 2 years of experience, or Master’s Degree with 5 years of experience.

Experience with bash scripting.

Experience with virtualization technologies, preferably Red Hat KVM (e.g., KVM, VMware, libvirt/virsh).

Networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, DHCP).

U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Willingness to work on site at Middletown, RI.

Additional Desired Experience and Skills

Active security clearance.

Current IAT Level I certifications.

Network+, Security+, Linux+ certifications.

Experience with Cisco switch/router configuration development and deployment.

Experience with system build automation tools (Linux kickstart, Puppet, Windows Deployment Server).

Computer/electronics hardware knowledge.

Intel server configuration experience.

Configuration management with SVN and Git.

Experience with submarine tactical systems.

Navy junior officer experience.
