We currently have an exciting opportunity at Northern Star (Pogo) LLC for an experienced and motivated Commercial Manager. Work location is based at the Fairbanks Office of Northern Star Resources, Pogo Mine. This position works a schedule of Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day.

What's the role?

The Commercial Manager reports to the General Manager, and the primary role is to provides strategic and operational financial leadership for the Pogo operation, ensuring strong financial governance, accurate reporting, and effective stewardship of site resources. This role acts as the key financial partner to the General Manager, providing insights that drive decision-making, cost control, and sustainable business performance while maintaining alignment with corporate financial policies and accounting standards. In addition to core financial and cost management functions, the position provides oversight for Warehouse, Purchasing, IT interface, and Site Services-ensuring integrated control across financial, supply, systems, and contractual service management to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective site operations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management & Reporting:

In conjunction with the Finance Superintendent manage all aspects of accounting, cost control, and management reporting in accordance with Generally accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) & International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Corporate Accounting Policies.

Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis and performance commentary.

Oversee the accounting, information services and materials management functions and ensures staff are developed and trained to complete their functions safely and effectively.

Manage forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning processes for the site, ensuring operational assumptions align with corporate guidance.

Oversee asset accounting, capital project controls, and site inventory valuation.

Business Partnering & Analysis:

Provide timely advice to the General Manager and Senior Site Leadership Team, translating operational performance into financial impact.

Develop and track key cost and productivity metrics across Mining, Processing, and Support functions.

Provide analysis on cost drivers, unit rates, and operational efficiency opportunities.

Prepare monthly and quarterly cost review and capex reports, as required by Perth Operational Finance leadership.

Support capital investment decisions with ROI, NPV, and sensitivity analyses.

Governance & Compliance:

Ensure site compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and audit requirements.

Maintain clear segregation of duties across accounting, warehouse, and purchasing functions.

Oversee financial risk management processes and corrective action plans identified through audits.

Liaise with external audit firms during periods of annual audits not limited to Pogo 401K Plan and the NSR external audit.

In addition, provide support for any NSR resources internal audit requests.

Coordinate with Corporate Finance and external auditors during review and audit cycles.

Warehouse, Purchasing & IT Oversight:

Provide strategic oversight of warehouse and purchasing functions to ensure alignment between operational demand and inventory management.

Ensure that the purchase to pay cycle is proper segregation of duties and payments are made to authorised vendors.

Ensure that purchasing team is processing requisitions in a timely manner to ensure that all purchase orders are issued with delay.

Ensure that the inventory is valued according to generally accepted accounting principles.

Review warehouse cycle counts of inventory with the POGO Warehouse team monthly.

Ensure that physical inventory is conducted at a minimum on an annual independent basis.

Ensure purchasing policies, vendor controls, and inventory systems align with corporate governance and value-for-money principles.

Support the IT interface and system integration (MyStarr, ADP, Pronto, Red Map, ADP transition, etc.) ensuring data integrity and efficiency across business systems.

Camp Services Management:

In conjunction with Contracts & Site Services Lead oversee the management of all Pogo Camp Services contracts and performance, ensuring compliance with agreed terms, service and safety standards, and budgeted costs.

Manage service-level agreements (SLAs) with catering, cleaning, maintenance, and accommodation providers.

Monitor camp cost structures, workforce logistics, and occupancy trends to optimize operational efficiency.

Ensure all camp-related expenditures, invoices, and contract renewals are financially validated and reported.

Work closely with OHST department to maintain safe, hygienic, and compliant living standards for the workforce in accordance with OHSA and MSHA.

Partner with Corporate Supply and Legal on tendering, negotiation, and renewal of camp service contracts

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline (CPA, CMA or equivalent preferred).

Strong knowledge of cost accounting, ERP systems (SAP, Pronto, or equivalent), and internal control frameworks.

Proven experience managing service contracts, logistics, or camp operations within a mining or remote site environment.

Experience overseeing multidisciplinary support functions (warehouse, purchasing, IT interface, and camp services).

Proven ability to translate operational data into meaningful financial insights

Current USA Driver's License.

Desired Experience & Competencies

Minimum 10 years' progressive financial management experience, including 5+ years in mining or heavy industrial operations.

Must be knowledgeable in managing processes, financial software, developing standards, audit, accounting, corporate finance, tracking budget expenses, financial skills, analysing information, and developing budgets.

Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Ability to assume increasing levels of responsibility.

Ability to maintain accurate records and files.

Ability to analyze and interpret applicable regulations.

Ability to create reports and procedures, and create, deliver effective presentations.

Demonstrated ability to effectively respond to requests for information.

Demonstrated advanced computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.

Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.

Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.
